Do you have a desire to create art but are not quite confident in your abilities or not sure you have the courage to attempt it?
As a child, I enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds. I especially loved making things in Sunday School and always looked forward to the bigger more involved craft projects in Vacation Bible School each summer.
However, I remember how intimidated I felt during my first high school art class. As I struggled to try to draw objects while others around seemed to whiz right through their drawing and be amazing, I felt less than good about my work and doubtful of my abilities. Needless to say, that was the only semester of art I took.
As an adult, I continued to only play with art but knew I needed to find a good teacher to teach me oil painting, as it seemed a little much and I had not had much success dabbling with it. One year I finally decided to write that down on my list of new things to learn as a goal in the new year.
As you can tell, I found my mentor and was given the gift of his simple technique to uncover my “inner artist!” I have been in love with oil painting ever since!
Can you relate to my story? Not sure how successful you might be in attempting oil painting?
Just check out my “100% Success Guarantee” as you peruse this gallery of some of my art students, most of whom had never painted before, and some sure they couldn’t even “draw their way out of a paper bag!”
With the simple and hands-on technique my mentor taught me that I pass on to my students, you will be painting successfully and having a blast right from Day One. My goal as I guide you is to teach you to really “see” colors so you can become a color master, which is one of the most essential parts of the painting process. This happens all along the way as I mix colors and set you to start seeing them in a way you may never have before.
Next, it’s important to understand composition and what makes a great painting that viewers will connect with emotionally. Finally, we will take that “good” painting you’ve done to the next level and make it “pop” in all the right places. That’s where you tell the viewer’s eye the places in the painting you want it to focus on that draws them right into it. It’s about those sharper areas of light versus the blurry or more shadowy areas that are less important than the main subject area.
When you display your first and subsequent paintings to your friends, they will say, “How did you do that?” as they express admiration for your beautiful work. The best part of the process is the fun you’ll have along the way, choosing paintings you want to paint from your own photos or our reference library of pictures to paint. About 90% of your painting time will be just putting approximate colors in the approximate places, which takes the pressure off having to “get it right” or be perfect from the first stroke.
What I love most about oil paints as a medium is just how forgiving they are. They feel like the consistency of butter and are a pleasure to work with. If you think you made a mistake along the way, it is easily fixed.
So all this takes the pressures and worries off not being “good enough” or afraid you might be embarrassed to show anyone your first attempt at painting.
I tell you, any concern about how your art will turn out will be out of the window quickly! You will be proud to show off every painting you complete in class right from the very first one! No one has ever failed to bring home a beautiful painting they were proud of and delighted with. It is my 100% Success Guarantee. Everyone from age 7 to 87 has felt the same delight!
So why not you? You have nothing to lose and a whole lot of fun to gain! My specialty is helping people be shocked and amazed at the latent ability they didn’t even realize they had – and only needed the right technique and teacher to encourage and show them how to bring it out.
From Impressionistic to Representational to Realism, you will know how to paint any subject matter and any of these styles and more as you continue to paint with me. Your new confidence and ability can take you as far as you decide! I’ve even helped some of my students get their art in art shows, sell their work, and bring in commissions for paintings as well. It’s all up to you and what you decide to do with your new-found gift of art!
